About the Cidade do Rock

In this edition there will be 17 attraction spaces, six more than 2017 - Favela Space, New Dance Order, NAVE - Our Future is Now, Fuerza Bruta, Rota 85 and Supernova Stage. There will be so many new things that you will need more than one day to visit all the structured areas in the Cidade do Rock, after all the event has become even larger and will have 60 thousand m² of additional useful area for the audience, reaching 385 thousand m². Furthermore, there will be 14 hours of music and entertainment every day, with the gates opening at 2 pm and closing at 4 pm. Rock in will take place on September 27, 28, 29 and October 3, 4, 5 and 6, at the Cidade do Rock (Av. Salvador Allende, no number- Parque Olímpico).

In this year’s edition, Rock in Rio will be set up like the main theme parks in the world, with a new circular floor plan which allows visitors to stroll in a continuous flow. From the gates, you will discover a world of attractions, starting with NAVE - Our Future is Now, Fuerza Bruta, and Gameplay Arena. Right ahead you will find Rota 85, Supernova Stage, New Dance Order, Rock District, Favela Space, Rock Street Asia, Gourmet Square, and the VIP Area, plus the Mundo and Sunset stages and the rides that complete this complex of fun (Roller Coaster, Mega Drop, Ferris Wheel and Zip Line).

Attractions for all tastes and ages

Starting at Mundo Stage, big international and national names will come up on Rock in Rio’s biggest stage. To close each night, the event will have: Drake (09/27), Foo Fighters (09/28), Bon Jovi (09/29), Red Hot Chili Peppers (10/03), Scorpions and Iron Maiden (10/04), P!nk (10/05), Muse and Imagine Dragons (10/06).

The Sunset Stage, venue for first-time and memorable encounters will receive Seal and Xenia França (27/09), Whitesnake (28/09), Jessie J (29/09), a meeting entitled Hip Hop Hurricane (gathering Rael, Agir, Baco Exu do Blues, and Rincon Sapiência, accompanied by Nova Orquestra), in addition to Metal Day (10/04) with breathtaking performances by Slayer (on its farewell tour), the American Charlie Puth (10/05) and the English King Crimson (10/06).  

The new spaces Favela and New Dance Order will become a part of the history of the event. The first brings content never seen before in the event. Developed with a broad curatorship, Espaço Favela amplifies the musical prowess from the communities. There will be 22 attractions in the seven days of the event. The space will be open from 2:30 pm.

New Dance Order comes with content focused on club music for dancing. The perfect place to hang out with your friends and enjoy the music. With extended hours and opened until 4am, the space will host 64 attractions, which will start at 4 pm. 

Rota 85, inspired by the iconic Route 66, which crosses eight US states, will also make its Rock City debut. The space will celebrate the history of the festival, from its first edition in 1985, to this day.

And this year, the famous Rock Street is inspired by Asia and all its cultural diversity. With 200 meters long and first class set design, it will teleport the public to the Asian continent. Rock Street Asia will feature temples, palaces, folk dances from India, musicians from South Korea and China, among other performances, as well as big names of Asian music that will be on the street stage, which has become a preference of the public since 2011.

In Rock District, audiences will see recreations of iconic world music videos in the light and laid-back choreography of Cia. Nós da Dança. On stage, famous artists will present the B side of their careers. A great opportunity for fans to get closer to artists and learn more about their preferences and influences. Confirmed names include: Dinho Ouro Preto, Rogério Flausino and Sideral, Kisser Klan among others. The space opens to the public at 2:45 pm and goes until 10:00 pm.

The arenas will receive some of the new attractions. Nave - Our Future is Now, a co-creation between Rock in Rio and Natura, wishes to bring a new look to the world, connect people and promote the transformation to the world that we want and need to start building today. The novelty, which will use music, art and multimedia technology to surprise the audience, will occupy all the internal area of the velodrome, providing visitors with an immersive, and totally playful and sensory experience. Resources such as projections, physical and virtual scenography will be used, as well as sound and olfactory effects.  The space will have the largest projection screen in Latin America with 5,400 m².

Still in the arena area, the Argentine group Fuerza Bruta will bring to Rock in Rio an unprecedented show created specially for the event.  There will be five daily 30-minute shows.

The Oi Game Play Arena by Game XP will be present at the event providing content from the gamer universe.
